Peak performance is more than performing in a theatrical production or athletic competition. It is a process of learning that enables us to unleash the potential of our body, our mind and our imagination*. Acting, art and performance training were once essential components of a classical education in which we were taught how to access our potential through artistic expression.
We will explore the incredibly useful techniques from the Chekhov Technique* that can assist with mental and physical flexibility. This is an introduction to our Philosophy and Approach to Performing Arts training and coaching. Open to all.
Learn how to gain poise, achieve vocal and physical confidence, process anxiety, organize your thoughts, inspire and exercise your imagination and more through our workshops and classes in Performing Artist Pilates™ and Acting.
Our Performing Arts Private, Semi-Private and small Group Acting classes offer professional instruction in techniques that may apply to media training, on-camera or stage work (including classical Shakespearean) check in with us regularly for class and workshop opportunities.
We specialize in the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique of training for all forms of Performance (for actors – stage, film and voice over – dancers, musicians, singers, teachers, writers, painters and other visual artists). *Click here to learn more about Mr. Chekhov.

Classically trained at LAMDA (the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art), the Groundlings School (with Mindy Sterling and John Crane) and at the Pasadena Playhouse Conservatory. Charlyn is a teaching certificate candidate with National Michael Chekhov Association (NMCA), INC. in the Chekhov Technique with Lisa Dalton, Wil Kilroy and the late Mala Powers. The NMCA program is the longest established Michael Chekov teacher certification in the world and Charlyn is the only active candidate in the Los Angeles area!
Her own painful experience with scoliosis was significantly improved with learning the practice of the Alexander Technique with Anni Durham Konrath and Robert MacDonald and greatly informs her teaching of both acting and Pilates. This, along with training in Voice & Movement, Feldenkrais, Yamuna Body Rolling and BalleCore led her to create Performing Artist Pilates™.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and received her master’s degree in Humanities (Film & Theatre). Her thesis, about the use of the arts and acting techniques in hospital settings with terminally and chronically ill children, became the documentary short film, Dramatic Difference, which she wrote, directed and produced.
For three seasons Charlyn was also casting and literary associate for Main Stage and New Works Festival productions at the Center Theater Group in Los Angeles (Mark Taper Forum, Ahmanson & Kirk Douglas) where she was mentored by Gordon Davidson, the late Stanley Soble and playwright Oliver Mayor. She has also hosted writing workshops with playwrights such as, Jeffrey Sweet. Since 2011 she has been a member of the Executive Board of the Pasadena Playhouse Alumni & Associates.
